when we are in pain, its the devil at work, countering the good things GoD has planned for us. so what better way to face our battle with satan, than by using our suffering to make the world a better place?

grabe.. parang kailangan ko na talagang bumalik ng school para matupad ang philosophy dreams ko.. ang daming tanong sa utak ko!! aaack! nakakabaliw! thank you to my tita sandy for sharing this most beautiful and meaningful question with me. sana mahanap ko, at ninyo, ang kasagutan.

Philosophy is my favorite subject way back in college..(at saka psychology /sociology din) pero minors ko lang sila lahat. And I don't think kaya ko silang i-major..Haha nakakasira kasi ng ulo! Sabi kasi nila analyzing life is what makes it more complicated..kaya dapat leave things as they are :)

If you have extra time, you can try to read other blogs..there, you'll find other's philosophy. Learn from them, argue with them...ang saya :)

When im in suffering and in pain i always remind myself of a part in the poem "footprints in the sand"...let me share it...:)

"Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why, when I needed you most, you would leave me."
The Lord replied, "My precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints in the sand, it was then that I carried you."

Hello po. Since this is your latest post, dito po ako nag-comment. I would just like to say that you are so great in being one of the hosts of PBB. You make the worlds of persons like us (kids) become inspired and through you, we set a goal in our lives and it will be in our hearts and minds for all time. ;)

I studied language and literature but I took mostly philosophy classes just because. I especially enjoyed Chinese Philo. Anyway, when we're going through something it either destroys us or makes us stronger and when we've overcome whatever it was that caused us a great deal of pain, we either forget or try to help other people who might be going through the same thing and that, I believe, is how we get to help the world be a better place. instead of cursing the world for screwing us over, we fight back by helping those in need.

hmmm, i've been reading your blogs eversince. this is my first time to comment.

If you have time you can read the cats and dogs theo [this was recommended by my friend] and Understanding Job.

i agree to you, the enemy will do all his best to hinder us from getting close to our walk with God; countering every blessing that God wants us to have.

I just want to share this with you:
"Everything we don't know about God will be taken against us by our enemy [satan]."

God bless you more! He has been blessing you with the power of influence! common!

Curious that someone would comment reading Job without really understanding it.

If pain is given to us by Satan then Satan is doing it with God's explicit permission. If you read Job you will see that God allowed Satan to hurt Job because God wants to score a point against Satan. For the sake of winning an argument, God sacrificed Job's family.

While Job was rewarded in the end, the fate of his wife and children wasn't even interesting to the writers of Job. It would really suck to be Job's wife and child, you know. Yet, they get no sympathy.

If pain is brought to us by the devil, then what about the stigmatists? Padre Pio became a saint because of it. Devil's gift? Or God's?

Study Philosophy, Bianca, but do not restrict your reading to those approved by the Church. You will be hearing only one side. I was on the side of the church once. But after wide reading, logic and reason, I discovered the truth. Was it Ingersoll who said that he finds it strange that God would give us reason and logic and then punish us for using them? Do not be afraid.

Read and think, Bianca. The truth is painful (it was to me) but the truth shall set you free.

Nakakatulong talaga ang mga struggles sa buhay. Roses are incomplete without thorns, light without dark, etc. Lahat ng bagay ay may balance.

Struggles are here to shape us into better individuals. All of us are susceptible to problems in life. It's about how you face it talaga, and being able to overcome it.

Heheh, tingin ko tama na ang mga sinabi ko. :p

hi bianca,

i am an incoming 2ndyr. Philosophy student at UP Diliman.
It's really a breath of fresh air hearing how you talk about your love for philosophy...I'm so tired of hearing people say "ano ka ba, sinasayang mo ang buhay mo...bakit philo pa ang kinuha mo?" I guess they won't understand let alone appreciate it unless they immerse themselves in it. good luck in pursuing your dreams of taking up philo one day. continue writing...thanks

I kind of disagree on what you said on the first paragraph.

When I am in pain, I never thought that the devil is at work on me. I think that it is part of my life and God intended it to be so that I can come out to become a stronger person, better than before.

And I agree on your last paragraph.

You should really go back to Philosophy class. If you do, I have lots of questions to ask you myself.

Good luck! Enjoy the rest of summer if you can!

Hi Bianca.

I'm Carissa and I'm an avid reader of your journal and this is my first comment :)

I think I have an answer to the question posted on your blog :)

I do think these sufferings can make the world a better place by sharing the learnings we have grasped in those experiences. In a way, these people whom you have shared your thoughts with will help then refrain from expriencing the same circumstance/s that you went through.

I don't if this is exactly answers your question. Hihi. :D

suffering is the best prayer that one can offer. Wether it be for world peace or for that lost brother.

that's so philosophical... i never thought that you could be this smart... you know what, i think it's better if you'll study back in school... hindi lang ikaw ang matututo, for sure you'll always be able to share your knowledge and principles with others...

like you. Andami ko ng tanong sa buhay ngayon. I thought tapos na ako sa stage na yon since 25 years old na ako. Pero recently, i lost my cousin who is very close to me. And then eto na naman ako magtatanong. Ewan ko ba, pero sometimes I even find myself thinking that sometimes God is unfair. To whatever reason, i hope in time we find the answers.

one does not need philosophy to understand the "basics" of life and to seek answers to questions about life. If you rely on them to seek the truth --- they are just a compilation of the thinking of thinkers made famous because its either eccentric or profound...or just plain outrageous. Im fascinated by it as well, once upon a time... but i was glad i was already a mature christian who knew the basic truth in the bible when i delved into philosophy. I was hungry for truth like you but i found ALL the answers in the BIBLE at the end of my seeking. Also, i do not think that all our sufferings are brought upon by the enemy. It could be a consequence of a mistake/bad decision/sin. Although we are always forgiven but we arent spared of facing the consequence of it...It could also be a testing allowed by GOD...just like Paul having a thorn in the flesh to teach him something...I pray that you will hear the answers from the Saviour HImself and He will speak to you in a special way..God bless

When you're down and in pain...so many questions are rambling in your mind. Sometimes you even question God why this things happens. Sometimes you doubt him for giving others what they want and yours not giving a chance ... Para maiwasan ko mag-doubt sa Kanya ... I always tell to myself, "Ann, pana-panahon lang yan ... your time will come :)"

Hello there Bianca,

We have pain because God watns us to carry the cross just like his beloved son Jesus.

Please read this
letter from a minister to a woman with cancer.

It's very touching. It really made me cry.

hmmm...that really made me think… suffering is really a strong and painful word. It could make someone bitter… or make him learn humility.

Well… perhaps, it’s a matter on how you look at things. What kind of attitude you show in dealing with it.

Anonymous said...

Nice question, it actually made me realize that people can be totally selfish at times we are complaining that our life's pure pain.

Pain is not always caused by the devil, and sometimes, it's the other way around.

God gives you pain to become a stronger individual.
And satan gives you an equal share of luck to help you change your faith.

But either way, we should really try to do things for a good cause.

miss...our suffering cannot make this world a better place...nobody`s suffering can...only one person has done that, that all might live..and hope..that all may be saved..there is nothing wrong in searching for the answer..its just that you already know it..we search deeper,farther,further..our search becomes suffering...
in school we learn theories...outside we learn to live...

this reminds me of something.

i've read the story of the 3 kids from fatima. si jacinta, yung youngest, palagi niyang inooffer yung sufferings niya for the conversion of sinners. na even sa huling moments niya, pinili niyang maghirap para mas marami pa siyang maconvert na sinners.
