i guess you really can't have it all..

the past days, ang dami dami kong narinig na iba't-ibang kwento.. ang sobrang dream ng isang tao, wala lang para sa isa pang tao. ang gustong bagay ng isang tao, problema naman para sa ibang tao. i find it so, so interesting and so i decided to share with you some of these stories.

"i wish i were filthy rich!"

a looot of people wish they were filthy rich. i have those moments where i wish i were filthy rich! who wouldn't want the resources to have anything and everything they want, right? super cliche ng "money can't buy happiness", but its true. i have a friend i would like to call "little miss rich girl". kwento niya na lahat daw ng kaibigan niya, lagi siyang niloloko na sa kanila na lang daw sana ang bahay niya, o damit niya, o mga bag niya, o mga gamit niya. she does feel very, very blessed to have all these things, but with the blessings come the struggles as well. dati, nag-try out daw siya para sa isang talent-based group. nung nakapasok siya, at nakita niya yung pangalan niya sa listahan, narinig niya yung bulung-bulungan ng ibang tao na bayad daw kaya siya nakapasok. "little miss rich girl" finds it hard to prove to people that she can do things on her own, without the power of money behind her, because she can do it, she really can.

i wish i were independent!"

i was blessed to have parents that were the right mix of strict and lenient. but i do have friends whose parents are so strict, that they feel suffocated, and wish so much for independence. para sa iba kasi, living with their parents come with so many house rules, mahirap na ang daming sasabihin ng mga magulang nila with every little decision, at pakiramdam nila, hindi nila magagawa ang gusto nila, kailan nila gusto. "miss mature" was so sure she wanted to move out of her family's house and live on her own. after her first few weeks of living independently, she felt she was living the life. going out on weekdays, no curfew, no having to ask permission to go out, no having to feel your every move is being watched. after a few months of living on her own, "miss mature" realized that a lot of other "no's" come with the set up. no instant clean sheets and warm food, no wake up call with a nice good morning kiss on the forehead from your mom, no access to absolutely every little piece of junk you've kept since childhood, plus add to that, bills, bills, and more bills. independence comes with great perks, but also comes with great responsibilities.

i wish i were famous!"

many filipinos are so fascinated with fame. whether it be famous in your village, in your class, in your whole batch, in your organization, famous among the boys, or just famous in general. "miss celebrity" enjoyed life in the spotlight. she liked dressing outrageously, just to be different from the rest. she loved it when people greeted her often, valued her opinion on certain issues, or even had her photo taken a lot wherever she goes. it meant a lot to her that a lot of people admired her, and a lot wanted to be like her. one day, "miss celebrity" had a bad day. she didn't feel like smiling, she just kept to herself, and she tried her best to stay strong at such a tough time in her life. so she's human. but then it hit her. so many people were in her face, giving too much meaning to every single word, action, and facial expression. making up false stories about her, passing false judgments, and name calling. that was when she felt she wanted to just blend in with the crowd. she wanted to just be able to breathe in her personal space.

isama mo na diyan ang ibang "i wish"..

..ang mga morenang nagpapaputi at mga tisay na nagpapa-tan.
..ang mga kulot na nagpaparebond, at mga straight-haired na nagpapa-perm.
..stick thin girls want to have curves, curvaceous girls want to be stick thin.
..desk job people want to be jetsetters, frequent travellers want to based in just one place.
..simpler folk want to live a fabulous life, social butterflies just sometimes want to live a simple life.

some say "be careful what you wish for".
others say "you always want what you can't have".
there's also the saying "you don't know what you got til its gone".
and of course how they say "make the most out of what you got".

putting all that together, it makes you think..
maybe.. even if you can't have it all..
sometimes, contentment and appreciation and thankfulness for the here and now will help make you feel that you do have it all.

Wow... that was a great post!! I loved it. In a way, it made me appreciate what I had and even what I didn't have... but there are still some things that I wish I could have. Like a little more money... haha. Moderation is key! =P

i couldn't agree more. :) and it really helps to count each and every blessing that you receive.

Man is insatiable, Bianca. That has always been our downfall.

Macho-payatot said...

Contentment is like reason. It makes people become fat in mind and body. Politicians and street gangs may do their bit to destroy the fabric of society, but to cause degeneration, there is nothing like contentment.

Show me somebody who is content, and I will show you somebody who is incapable of noticing his less fortunate fellow man. In fact, I am slowly beginning to discover that contentment describes the man who is resting on his laurels; the man who is proud of what he has achieved, and of how much he has earned, and maybe of how many jacuzzis he plans to install in each of his four houses.

i was checking your blog every so often ,because i was expecting you'd post something about mariel or the most recent. toni being the hausm8 hehehe...but enwei... i totally agree that we just have to learn to appreciate what we have.aside from the fact that we can't have evrything.it'll be so frustrating to ask for more.and enjoying the things we already have will be much less of a stress. hehe.. and if we come to think of it.. we are blessed in different ways. be it in material things, family, love life and what not.. bottom line is... just be thankful.. and everything will follow!

hi, bianca

believe it or not..when i go surf the net everyday..i always check your blog...i always wish that you would do it a bit often but i know that you are busy. wala lang the way you write is just so good...meaning no need to put flowery words etc its just straight forward and really from the heart..in short nakakaaliw sya...whether the subject is something serious or light..napipicture ko tuloy how is it to be your friend..para tuloy gusto kong magtaong...hope you answer this one kahit di relevant dun sa blog mo! how do you know that a guy likes you na...aside from the usual things na ginagawa na magpapansin..just want to hear your insight...thanks and more power

Everything in this entry is just so true. :)

agree. funny how people keep on wanting more and more not realizing they've already got what other people want to have. :)

Mheems said...

ok, a really meaningful post. But what if the things that you wish for are the things that wil make you happy?

Anonymous said...

i could not agree more! napa-wow ako sa entry na toh! nice one bia. It's true talaga na most of the time nakakalimutan na nating ma-appreciate ang mga bagay na sobrang bless na tayo because we're too busy complaining and wishing for more things that we think we don't have. I believe that contentment is not the fulfillment of what we want, but the realization of how much we already have.

You've done a great job hosting Uber and PT kahit na nagso-solo ka. Take care always and God bless you!! Stay happy! Maraming nagmamahal sa'yo.

Its so true that we can't have everything we wish we had. God only gives us what we need and not what we want because He knows what is good for us. God even gives us more than what we had wished for. We must always be contented on what we have and make the most out of it.

i totally agree with your post.i guess that being contented is a virtue.. we do sometimes wish, or hope for contentment, but the eagerness to reach more on things whether on material, power etc. never ends.it's not bad to reach on things you want or dreams that you want to be, it's just that we should ought to know that not all the things in this world can get it by just a snap of a finger.

Bianca, you already make a difference. your blog makes a difference on us readers. Keep it up girl! God Bless!

hi bianca. thanks. right now, yun talaga ung kelangan kong i-realize. hehe! you see, i've always wanted to study abroad. when I was there, i studied so hard just to get to a school abroad. now that i am here for five months, sobrang lungkot pala. it's so sad that I'm starting to think, why the heck did i ever want this in the first place. it's really ironic how life plays with us. in the end, it all comes down to being contented in God's blessings. I'd always believe that God makes things happen for a purpose. Dba? sabi nga, things are more beautiful with a grateful and thankful heart. :D back to studying! i'm having my finals in a few weeks! hehe! cheerios! :)

hi bianca!

this is really an eye-opener. minsan kasi, a lot of people wish for things, not knowing what the consequences are. Minsan, may mga tao pang hindi makuntento on what they have.

tulad ko, i wished for a better job that the one im in today, a big company called me up but offered me a lower position that what i have now. People might say that I have passed my chance for a higher salary or something, but you see in my present company, i could write freely, i had my articles published and all.

So much for having a wish come true right?

Continue to inspire your readers po, i know they could all learn from you, like I did. :D

Anonymous said...

ive realized that long ago, and still, i find it hard to be satisfied with what i have right now. everyone is just human, i guess.:)

Anonymous said...

ganun naman ata talaga. human nature yun. you always wish for what you don't/can't have.

ganyan din ako minsan. cos being a bunso and unica hija, medyo strict and parents ko sa akin. i have absurd curfews sa edad kong ito. 22. hehe. pero i just try to enjoy life within my limitations. minsan naman, pinapayagan ako ng parents ko to go out and lumagpas sa curfew ko. i earned that privilege.

the Lord will bring contentment in your life, that's for sure. :)

I heard of your blog from a close friend and i'm so thankful i did. Super fan ako back from the Candymag days. It's nice to hear such thoughts from a "now celeb" like you. I know it's a cliche reading "celeb" in the earlier sentence. Just take it as a compliment. You are one of them who upgrades the way people look up to celebs.

contentment is such a dilemma for a lot of people. we always search for something we want to know, find something we want to gain and look for something which is sometimes can't be seen here.. but after our life here. i always tell my friends na, si God, He never give everything to one person, kasi madalas, baka ma-abuse. and one thing, kelangan naman nung taong un ung blessing kesa sayo, kasi kung wala sya nun eh paano na sya. medyo bad ako pag nasasabi ko to, pero i know, this is true. kaya hinde tayo dapat mainggit or mag desire ng wala satin. take it as a challenge for us to strive harder. just have enough confidence on oneself. contentment will be the hardest thing for anyone but it will be the greatest thing one could ever have... keep the faith bianca! continue shining and be a great example to everyone. keep smiling and may you keep us also smiling... :)

Hi Bianca! I'm a super avid viewer of PBB..watch it everyday! Just a 'constructive' comment...I noticed when you pronounce your words you tend to emphasize the last syllable too much (i.e. bryan-ah (instead of Bryan), Tony-ah (instead of Tony), Mariel-ah (instead of Mariel), One-ah Two-ah Three-ah Four-ah Five-ah (instead of one two three four five)...it's kind of distracting. Just a comment which may help you improve your hosting. More power! =)

hi bianca!:) just want you to know na mas bagay sayo pag hindi masyado matitingkad yung kulay ng makeup! pag mga pastels. i mean sharp na yung features mo, minsan natatabunan ng makeup instead na maenhance. :)

i'm such a fan, haha. you are the smartest among the three PBB girls. It just happens na sobrang confident si toni and mariel. hope your time to shine will come soon!:) kung fluency and correct grammar in english lang, you are way ahead. i also want to commend you for being well-mannered.

i know PBB caused a lot of intrigues in your life pero at least nakita naman ng tao na hindi ka masama. you may have fallen for someone inside the house pero people never accused you of being a backbiter or something. God bless Bianca!:)

totoo. you really cant have everything talaga bianca kasi if that would be the case, we won't be aiming for greater things na. things that, we and the people around us think its impossible for us to achieve. we wont strive harder to reach our dreams, to improve ourselves better. we won't be feeling that "inner drive" that motivates us to succeed more in our lives.

if we could have everything, what would be God's role in our lives? kasi sa lahat ng mga voids and empty spaces natin in our lives, only Him could fill that up. :)

great realization, especially on the last part which i totally agree with.

once i felt that i fell too short with my life because of the things that i can't have but once i counted my blessings... it amazed me to see that what i REALLY need i already have and my wants are just "imagined needs". From now on I wake up happier each day and more contented.
