05 October 2011

thank you, philippine star.

i started my blog in september of 2003. i was a college junior and i enjoyed writing. (although back then, it was probably more ranting than writing.) ever since high school i've enjoyed sharing my thoughts and ideas through words, whether it be through a script of a class play or video, or through doodles i would jot down on my notebook.

fast forward to september of 2011, and i find myself celebrating my eighth blog anniversary. feels awesome.

back track to august 2011. it was a thursday and i was having a lunch meeting with my friend rissa mananquil, the beautiful model and columnist, zo aguila, who was at the time still cosmo philippines' editor-in-chief, and millet mananquil, the famed lifestyle editor of the philippine star.

fast forward again to the last weekend of september 2011, i head to national bookstore to purchase something i feel every "legitimate" interviewer must have. an audio recorder.

fast forward a bit more to the first sunday of october 2011. as soon as i wake up, i rush out of bed to get a copy of the newspaper. i find myself jumping up and down, giddy and happy like a little girl on her first time in disneyland, looking at this:

no joke! i was really jumping up and down with full force! full hingal factor din ako pagkatapos ko magtatatalon!

who wouldn't jump for joy when they see their name on the front cover of the philippine star??!!

i was really, honestly only praying that my editor tita millet would like what i wrote, and that my column wouldn't be hidden in one corner in the paper. but this.. this was beyond real.

i was literally in shock seeing my name on the front page masthead that it took me a few minutes before i could open the lifestyle section. when i finally got around to, there it was..

wow. wow. wow. thank you Lord. there are no words to describe the feeling. my photo, my name, my column title. i could not believe it. it was a dream beyond my own dreams come true.

it was on section H, page 1 of the lifestyle section. 'ten things you should know about' is the title of my column. and my first subject is the woman everyone loves to hate or loves to love, kris aquino.

reading words i wrote printed on an actual broadsheet was extremely unreal. to all published writers reading this, excuse my (over) reaction, i know this may be ordinary for you, but for me, right now, i am just overwhelmed!!!! to all writers dreaming to be published, keep writing, your dream might just come true. :)

(excuse the bad photoshop blur, i obviously have to work on my photo editing skills.)

i've been told that i express myself well through words, but i know i'm not an excellent writer. my grammar, punctuations, and prepositions are sometimes off, i don't know the meaning of a lot of big words, and there is so much about the world that other people know but i don't. i do know that i am passionate about sharing my thoughts with words, and i guess that counts. :)

thank you, rissa for even thinking of bringing up my name to your mom, and setting the whole meeting up. if it wasn't for you, i never would've thought my being a "real" writer would be possible.

thank you, glenn orion, the photographer who took my column photo. i was told that i had to submit a photo for my column, and since i had just cut my hair a week before, i had no photos with my new look! luckily, glenn took my photos a few days before the deadline and graciously sent me the file so i could have a photo with my column.

thank you, ate kris for agreeing to be my first subject. when i first told her i wanted her to be my first feature, she said, "bianca, there's nothing people don't know about me." i agreed, but still insisted on writing about her. thank you for the wonderful words you sent me after you got to read the article. thank you. i will save your message forever.

thank you, tita millet for giving me the time of day and believing in me. thank you in general for supporting young minds who want to share what they have to say, and who want to share their ideas to the world. thank you so much for liking my column.

thank you to everyone who got to read my first ever article, to those who sent an email, a tweet, a text message, thank you. i am beyond happy to hear that you enjoyed reading it, but more than anything, now, i am pressured for the next sunday columns to come. hahahahahaa!

i am both scared and excited to get to know more people a little bit more, and learn from their stories. i hope you are excited too. :)

alam mo bianca, you are a great host. i really felt bad when SNN got canceled. i think i know why. noong una, SNN was really good. i hated pinoy showbiz news but still i stuck around to watch SNN. kasi entertaining xa. but on the later episodes, the show got really safe only feature or cover artistas with new movies or something else to promote.

i hope u still get a shot on a new hosting job in tv. we'd really love to see you again.

and congrats! are you going to be a regular at Philippine star? can't wait to read your articles.

much love,
supergirlfan

You continue to inspire people with what you write, what you say and how you live. It is very rare to find a beautiful lady, with such wit and class and the values still intact.
I admire you more now because of this new achievement, and because you still continue to strive hard to reach your goals. You just keep on getting better and better with each milestone. :)

More power and kudos, Bianca!

Good job Bianca!! I have always admited you as a host, a blogger and your sense of fashion, simple but it rocks. You know, like you, I love expressing my thoughts. Same as what you have said, my grammar isn't that perfect, basta feel ko lang to let the world know what I feel. I have always wanted to start blogging. Maybe you could give me an advise on how and what blogging site would possibly fit me. I have registered with blogger, wordpress and tumblr but I don't know where to officially start my first blog. Help?
You inspire me and a lot of people for sure. Keep up the good work! God bless!!

Woaaah! I love the achievement! WRITER KA NA TALAGA!! I knew you'd become like this. I love your blog and your writing skill is really nice Bianca. Whenever I am reading your entries it's like we are just personally talking like friends kahit hindi naman tayo nagkikita. That's why regular reader mo ako kasi I love the way you write. And I love how you share your life with us.

I absolutely love to write. I even spent so much money on buying newspapers before kasi I wanna learn how to write effectively then I made a blog, then I saw your blog and it changed the way I see life in a very positive way. I may not have a lot of followers ( which I myself dream na sana nga may magbabasa din ng aking blog) but the love of writing will always be in my heart.

I just love expressing my thoughts in words and writing tlaga, and I am so happy to think about it kasi we do have that in common. :0 JOB WELL DONE BIANCA!!! CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU!!! :) HAVEY NA HAVEY!!!

Congrats, and keep being inspired for more telling pieces! =)

dearest babybee...

wow its been eight years in blogging and that was totally awesome...congratulations for still keeping a blog for that long..i understand what you feel that there is a genuine happiness felt whenever what we had inside of us was express and shared through words. as a promise, the moment i had my own laptop and internet connection and stuff i'll put a comment in your every blog-every blog haha sana di ka magsawa na basahin yun.

i'm so happy for you that finally and for the first time you see your "creation" on print. maybe were not the same, but i know and remember how thus it feel na binasa yung news na ginawa ko for the first time. by the way im a writer and working on a media. kahit naman sino, especially the one na mahilig magsulat at makita ang ginawa nya sa broadsheet will be happy..as in super happy!!!

for me kahit na in your own words oa yung dating, gora lang babybee..kasi naman hindi lahat ng writer sa mundo ay nabibigyan ng chance na mafeature ang article nila in one of the biggest broadsheet sa bansa, ahm puro tagalog na ginagamit ko ah haha anyways..good luck and im so happy for you na you had your dreams more coming to life ..

xoxo..dark angel
