I'm 30! Why I think its more awesome than 20.

I'm 30!!!!

I started this blog in 2003, when I was 20 years old. Ten years after, I don't really feel much older but I feel so much has happened!

So let's see. In ten years I've:

..graduated college at Ateneo de Manila with a major in Communications and minor in Philosophy

..gone on around 40 trips both within the Philippines and abroad

..seen my brother get married, and grow his own family with wife Tracy and kids Roco and Sabine

..been rejected maybe 100 times at VTRs, castings, and auditions

..gone through three heartbreaks

..made a steady career for myself on television, print, and online, with a number of advocacies

..checked a few things off my bucketlist like meeting Kobe Bryant and going skydiving!

I always thought 30 was so OLD!

Now that I'm 30, I don't feel old at all. I feel like an adult when paying important bills and signing thick documents, but otherwise, I still feel like a kid excited to see the world!

Why being 30 is more awesome than being 20.

Because you can say you've "been there, done that" to problems that you had no idea how you'd get through when you were 20.

Because you've embarrassed yourself and committed booboos enough times to know how to laugh at yourself and not take yourself too seriously.

Because when they say you have to be "whole" before entering a relationship, you kinda know better what it means to be "whole".

Because you need not be too safe with your words and you don't really feel the need to please others all the time. Why? Because you are strong enough to stand by your word and you learn that you really cannot please everyone.

Because by 30, you've probably gone through a point in your life where you lost everything, and you know now that you are strong enough to pick yourself up again and rebuild your life.

Because by now you've sort of figured out the answer to that nagging quarter life crisis question: What is my place in the world?

Because you just know yourself better. :)

I'm not saying I have it all figured out because I don't, but I can say I know how to go about things a bit more.

And now that I'm 30, I intend to enjoy and learn from this phase in my life. And I honestly can't wait to turn 40! I hear its an awesome age too!

In two months time, I will also be turning 30. Really dreading that day because I don't want to grow old. However, when I read your blog, it made me think that yes it is a reality that I will be getting old but I have a lot of things to be thankful for. So thank you Bianca for being my inspiration! I might start blogging as well! :) Happy birthday! :)

I love how you still get to have the drive to write here and not completely abandon it. I know you have been so busy (and yet blessed) with your media work and that you included in your blog post your booboos and were still thankful for your vtr rejection. Look were you are right now, you fully deserve it. I still hope I still get to see you around here until you turned 40 and more. Haha. More blessings, love and happiness to you Bianca! ;)

30 is the new 20! I believe so. I'm 21 and I feel old but at the same time, I still feel like a teenager.

I think the 30 (or 20 or 21 or 22 etc) sounds older than it feels, right? :)

Wow. I am turning thirty this month, and I had a lot of things going on in my mind about that. But you pretty much relayed all the positive things I could think about reaching this age, and I couldn't think of a better role model than you! I am definitely sharing this on my blog. Thank you and love you to pieces! :D

Well said and well thought out, Bianca.... And may I add, like wine, which gets better with age, a woman's depth and wisdom only add to her allure and beauty. Age and experience give a woman confidence and certainty in who she is. Knowing who she is, life does not faze her as much anymore having learned that life comes with challenges, which can be dealth with, with enough faith, proactivity and focus. Age teaches a woman that challenges are life's "inevitables" God throws in her direction to make her stronger, and better prepared for what's ahead of her, when she learns to turn challenges around to her advantage.

Bottom line: a woman's beauty that comes from within (as a result of grace and character shines brighter than physical beauty) . (Hence, we all should be like the Europeans, who appreciate more mature women for their age, and wisdom.)

Cheers to getting older/wiser, gaining more inner strength/more self confidnce!! Celebrate life and look forward to a more meaningful life full of substance and fulfillment.

Well said, Bianca. Your wise take about getting on in years, carry much weight/value to many of your followers particularly the youth, as a high profile media personality. You hit the nail on the head by turning your rejections/failures/life's challenges around and proactively learning from these. Not letting fame go to one's head is the best way to keep one's feet firmly on the ground. Reassuring to see value-centeredness and self reliance, among other virtues/qualities, become the core aim of visible personalities like yourself. (cc: KC Concepcion, another woman of substance like yourself) Press on with this mindset, Bianca.

I can totally relate to this post.. I'm turning 34 in two months and the only phrase I can really describe what it feels like to be in the early 30's is that I know myself better now. I know which battles to fight for and which ones to let go of... I'm more patient and a lot more kinder because as you said "I've been there and done that..." I do am still hard on myself when I make mistakes though but I'm guessing when I become 40, it wouldn't matter so much... :) I look forward to that!

I am actually still in the point of knowing my self...that stage where I know how to handle things right and make mature decisions in life coz right now, I'm so coward doing things...

Bianca, I'm turning 28 in a few weeks and I got to admit I'm kind of dreading the day that I'll turn a year older. Reading this post makes me feel better about it. The older we get, the wiser we become. It's not so bad after all. :)
